Hello,
I have a situation where a client wants to serve "sound bites" of a product.
mp3 should be fine. It does have to be streamed, an http link to a file is not sufficient. The idea is to have a link to an mp3 stream from the product's description page.
It seems like icecast is the way to go, but I'm almost totally lost after that. The problem is that Icecast only handles the actual client connections, you have to use a second program to actually feed the mp3s to icecast, and that's where it gets really confusing. There's so many programs to do that it's baffling: shout, icedir, ices, liveice, etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a setup like this? Most of the icecast "streamers" seem to be designed for a single continous feed, readio-station style. That's not really what we're looking for.
I'm just not sure what to use -- if anyone knows how dto do a setup like this, I'd like to know what you used.
Someone suggested that all I needed was the appropriate mime-type in apache, but I really don't think I want to use Apache for the actual streaming.
Thanks,
JW
