After about 30 seconds inactivity the modem timed out and hung up. It looks like ppp wasn't started at the remote end.
actually, the timing on my log was completely different because i had to cut and paste the sent line from another one of those unfourtanates who can't connect. on mine, one that line was sent, the modem would disconnect withing seconds
You're using wvdial, right? What does the wvdial log look like?
wvdial/kinternet/kppp - all logs were identical... i grepped 'em and then eye compared them... etc etc etc, they're 100% identical
Have you ever been able to log on using linux? How did you set it up in XP? It could be you need some sort of script to connect that your XP install routine set up for you, the wvdial log should reveal that.
with RedHat 7.1 and enjoyed the exp. then i heard so much about SuSe, i just had to get 8.0... now i'm offline w/ it and my RH discs are missing... i'm seriously thinking about going back, but then 1) i'd be wasting money; 2) i'm liking SuSe even more by the day despite this XP auto-detected the modem and has no problems with either (softmodem made by Conexant and the PCMCIA by Zoom). ... baffling, no?
