StarOffice 6.0 uses ghostscript (or any other pdf distiller) to create pdf files. Ghostscript has (usually) built-in support for jpeg and png files but not all graphics formats (hence bitmaps and tiff files don't appear). A solution: open the bitmap with Gimp (or a similar graphics program). Save it as a png file. Use the png file in StarOffice 6.0. You should get no quality loss but should get a smaller file for the image.
