I've been working w/ this problem w/ some success, but I haven't gotten it all sorted out yet. Try starting with the following 2 articles you can find in the SuSE Knowledge base: 1. "IDE CD Writer" 2. "Mount Problems in Systems with Burners Without a Separate CD-ROM Drive" These should help you out I hope. I'm a Linux newbie. Just upgraded from 7.3 to 8.0 yesterday but not all has gone well with the upgrade. For example, I'm not able to get my CD burner to play music. Everything was fine in 7.3 but I cannot figure out what's wrong here. Your help is appreciated. I did a clean install of 8.0. My CD burner is IDE. When I installed 8.0 it put two icons on my desktop (one is called CD-R and the other is labelled CD-ROM). Neither seems to work. I installed two CD players: KsCD and xsadp. Neither will play a music CD. In fact xsadp tells me there is no disk in the drive! Here is my fstab file: /dev/hda3 / reiserfs defaults 1 2 /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto, user, exec 0 0 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,noauto, user, exec 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0 /dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto noauto, user, sync 0 0 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 usbdevfs /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs noauto 0 0 /dev/hda1 /windows/C vfat noauto, user 0 0 /dev/hda2 swap swap pri=42 0 0 It's probably something very basic but this newbie is stumped. If you have any suggestions I'd sure like to hear from you.
