Hi, Philipp! Thanks for the tip. Here's what my lilo.conf looks like: # Modified by YaST2. Last modification on Sun Jul 21 14:11:07 2002 boot = /dev/hda change-rules reset read-only vga = normal menu-scheme = Wg:kw:Wg:Wg lba32 prompt timeout = 80 default = "Windows XP" message = /boot/message image = /boot/vmlinuz label = Linux initrd = /boot/initrd root = /dev/hda7 image = /boot/vmlinuz.suse label = Failsafe append = "ide=nodma apm=off acpi=off acpismp=force hdc=ide-scsi" initrd = /boot/initrd.suse optional root = /dev/hda7 other = /dev/hda1 label = "Windows XP" image = /boot/memtest.bin label = Memtest86 I figured out the intel etherpro nic. Since I was using the boot cd to load my installed linux, I forgot to pre-load the ethernet modules. Once I did that, I could log in via the wired network, but I still cannot get my wireless to work even with the updates I downloaded from YOU. These may all be fixed once I get the main problem repaired. That's getting Linux to start from Lilo without a problem. It won't. I choose Linux and get the "Loading Linux . . . . ." and when the dots are done, it just goes blank. I cannot even ctrl alt del. I must hard reboot. I'm used to using grub with redhat, but I've read everything that I can about Lilo, and it seems to be configured correctly. I don't know where to go from here. Thanks for your assistance! Hi Scott,
just a tip at the start. In the future, it would be best to split mails, one for each problem. That makes it easier to deal with a problem.

[21 Jul 2002 10:59:13 -0700]: Recent convert from Redhat 7.3 and am anxious to give SuSE a try, but am having problems. I cannot boot her up without using the boot install cd. I have to go through all the installation hoops and choose basic installation/upgrade and then choose boot installed system and it boots without a problem.
How did you install SuSE, how's your disk(s) partitioned (what does 'fdisk -l' say), where did you install Lilo and how is Lilo configured (what does /etc/lilo.conf look like).
Once I get into SuSE 8.0, I cannot connect to the internet. I downloaded from the ftp site without problem.
If you can download from the ftp site, you *are* connected to the internet, so I don't quite understand your question.
but I cannot get my intel etherpro 100 built in card to work with DHCP
I get an error with the intel card stating ifdown: Could not get a valid interface name and ifup: Could not get a valid interface name.
How did you configure the network card?
should I redownload and use manual install, or are both of these problems fixable within my current installation?
No, those problems should be solvable without a reinstall.
nor get my Orinoco built in wireless to work.
There is an update available for PCMCIA handling.
