Hi all
I have trouble posting to leaf-user and
leaf-devel@lists.sourceforge.net :(
AFAICT from
https://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=6747&group_id=1 the
problem(s) relate to SF's mailservers being somewhat picky about who
they want to talk to. Unfortunately my grasp of the mechanics of
mailtransport is insufficient to work this out on my own :((
System is:
Postfix 1.1.4 /SuSE 8
Standalone host, no FQDN
Sits in a private masqueraded LAN, without internal DNS
I have in sender_canonical:
jon@a13-8.kinkon dsl23212@vip.cybercity.dk
-which seems to work well with other mail servers.
I stopped using my ISPs server as relay, since that produced insane
delays (one msg took 29 hrs to be delivered). My ISP uses Postfix as
well, so there *might* be a more general problem, but that aside, one
bonus of not using them, is that I now have access to the log :)
Delivery fails with:
Jul 20 20:18:38 a13-8 postfix/qmgr[747]: 2FFA4272BD:
from=, size=1397, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Jul 20 20:23:44 a13-8 postfix/smtp[3334]: 2FFA4272BD:
to=,
relay=mail.sourceforge.net[216.136.171.198], delay=39812,
status=deferred (conversation with mail.sourceforge.net[216.136.171.198]
timed out while sending MAIL FROM)
Unfortunately this doesn't make me much wiser :(
I can see several things that might contribute to the problem:
name-confusion in general
reverse lookup failure
-for starters...
I've alerted my ISP to the problem, and I do believe they're working on
it. But if possible I'd just as soon not revert to using them as relay.
The question is, do I have any way of setting my Postfix up, so that
SF's Exim servers will be happy?
Since my ISP blocks downstream port 25 traffic, and I use their POP
server to retrieve mail, will SF *ever* accept direct connections from
my system? (Since this will, IINM, destroy smtp-callback)
Would setting up internal dns help?
Any insights, comments, suggestions much appreciated
Will post additional info as requested/required...
TIA
Jon Clausen
