I've recently deleted a working copy of Redhat 7.3 to put on SuSE 8.0. I have my harddrive partitioned as follows: part 1: NTFS Windows XP, part 2: NTFS, part 3: Linux. I did a clean install from FTP. Everything goes well during install, however it never asks for my monitor type (all other distros do because I have a laptop and it can't auto probe it), and it never asks me for a root password or new user info. I've tried putting Lilo on the MBR and on floppy. MBR works for all other distros. I've installed it three times with no avail. Here's the problem. Lilo boots fine and recognizes my Windows XP. I have it boot to linux and I get the loading linux . . . . ., etc screen, but then the screen goes blank. I wait and wait and wait and wait and nothing happens. I have to hard reboot and the same thing happens. Windows XP runs fine. I've not had this problem with Redhat 7.3 nor Slackware distros. I've tried the SuSE 8.0 Live Eval and it worked without fail. I liked what it had to offer so I wanted to switch from Redhat to SuSE. Can anyone help me. I'm a Linuxnewbie, but am familiar with the workings of the computer. My system is a Gateway 600XL laptop with 40 GB harddrive, 256 Ram, Pentium 4 Mobile CPU 1.7GHz, Radeon 7500 mobile with 64MB ram, DVD/CDRW drive. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Scott
