Is there a source for Linux compatibility with particular dsl modems? As I understand it, all I need is an ethernet card, but I am told that some systems, e.g. some Apple systems require special software to allow their ethernet cards to communicate with particular DSL (and cable) modems.

I just recently installed cable modem service to mine and the installer about blew a cork when I just booted up, did a dhcp search for an IP address and was surfing in seconds. Some DSL require you do a manual entry with IP address, etc, but Yast2 makes that easy also. I can say that, because I helped one of my customers set her DSL up just recently that didn't use DHCP.
