I believe I have a conflict between my nic and sound card. I get distortion when I play mp3 files. The sound card and nic are sharing irq 5. I believe I can change the irq assigned to the pci slot that either card is in, but I don't know if this is advisible and/or which to change and to what irq.
Any help will be appreciated.
In your boot sequence (usually delete key), jump into your BIOS settings and there re-assign the IRQ for slots to un-used IRQ's. You might try IRQ 10 for the soundcard.
The free ones might show up be using
cat /proc/interrupts CPU0 0: 728745 XT-PIC timer 1: 27186 XT-PIC keyboard 2: 0 XT-PIC cascade 3: 12368 XT-PIC eth1 5: 0 XT-PIC Maestro3 8: 2 XT-PIC rtc 11: 16 XT-PIC usb-uhci, PCI device 104c:ac51, PCI device 104c:ac51 12: 117804 XT-PIC PS/2 Mouse 14: 75724 XT-PIC ide0 15: 19047 XT-PIC ide1 NMI: 0 ERR: 0
I moved the sound card to another slot and it tock irq 5 for itself and the nic moved to irq 9, shared with my scsi card, aic7xxx. tks, -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org
