I have installed both SO5.2 from the SuSE 7.3 cd in rpm, and openoffice 1.0 from the SuSE 8.0 rpm. All goes fine. I don't know if it is any diferences between SO6.0 and openoffice 1.0. I have tryied the demo version of SO6.0 and it look to be the same program as openoffice. Just the price are not the same, you can get Openoffice for free and you must pay for SO6.0 Open office is very great to open all the MS-office documents, but if you want to do a web site, SO5.2 with the frameset function is best. The interface of SO5.2 is unusual but very powerfull. My dream is a program that is combining openoffice with the the framset function and the power of the SO5.2's interface. Yesterday I bought the SuSE Pro-Office CD at a local store. When I attempted to install the StarOffice 6.0 RPMS, there were exactly two (2) files that conflicted with the already installed StarOffice 5.2. [sigh.] I'd like to have them installed simultaneously if possible so I can run them side-by-side for comparison.
Since I've moved to apt to manage the rpms installed on my system, I no longer can install conflicting packages, even though the conflicts could easily be worked around. All I can think of at this time would be to modify one of the rpms, moving things around and/or renaming things to avoid the conflicts - more work than I'd like to do now.
BTW, the conflicting files are:
/usr/X11R6/bin/soffice /usr/share/doc/packages/so_en/README.SuSE
Has anyone installed both pkgs together on a single system? If so, how? Any other ideas?
Thanks!
