I have a SoundBlaster Live! Platinum card and I've just installed SuSE Pro 8. I mostly listen using headphones, but the behaviour is not what I'd expect! Firstly when I configured the card I discovered that the only way I could get any sound was to turn the headphone volume control up in the options setting in Yast2 for sound. (It defaulted to 0, off.) The normal volume control has no effect on the volume of the headphones! I also found that I had to turn up the digital in from the CD drive to hear a CD playing. Later I discovered that I can actually control these setting using Gamix. Also KMix seems pretty useless: it doesn't have controls for half the features of the card. No headphone volume. No setting for the digital in from the CD drive. Gamix does a much better job of managing the sound card. It's a bit of a nuisance that the main volume control does not affect the headphone volume, but since I have a LiveDrive! with a volume control on the front I guess I can live with it - it's just not what I'd expected. It's really quirky. But then the card does have a lot of features and capability. :-) Anyone else puzzled by this? What about the newer audiology card, are drivers available for it? David.
