I bought the cheapest DVD reader (ATAPI) that was at CompUSA 2 years ago, so I could accomodate the SuSE DVD's. No issue at all. It's worked on all video DVD's I've tried also. Maybe you could try borrowing one ? /Dee
Hello, Kevin.
There is a known issue with certain firmware revisions of certain DVD drives (believe me, I wish I could be more specific) including some of the Pioneers.
Have you tried flashing the firmware yet ? I am going to be doing a clean 8.0 install on a couple of machines in the near future, both of which have Pioneer's 116 drives. One has the original firmware, the other has been flashed with the latest one from their website. I would be curious to hear if the firmware update cured the problem, should you elect to try it.
If not, maybe I'll post my findings once I get around to the installs.
Bye for now, Stuart.

07/10/02 10:22AM Good day, all.
Can anybody confirm (or guess authoritatively):
When SuSE releases 8.1, will I be able to install via my Pioneer DVD? (It didn't work for 8.0, and I reverted to CD installation.)
If so, then it's worthwhile for me to purchase another boxed set. But if I'm going to be stuck using the seven CDs once again, I might as well just borrow from somebody and not pay again until 9.x... :-)
I would most likely be doing a "new" install, and not an upgrade, so any tweaks that I have updated into 8.0 will not be available.
Thanks,
