I've done a default install of SuSE 8.0 onto a new PC, and then put in another disk, which I was going to partition using Partition Manager 7.0. On loading this from the boot-disks, it said that there was a discrepancy between the LBA and CHS views of where a couple of partitions ended - did it want me to fix them to the LBA view, which it assured me was the correct one. Foolishly (with hindsight) I said yes, and went gaily on. But now, on reboot into SuSE, I get the above message. The simplest thing would just be to reinstall, but I feel I should treat this as a learning exercise .... Firstly, what does it mean? Are the partitions completely hosed, or are they retrievable? Secondly, if the latter, how does one go about it? I tried booting into the Rescue option from the CD, and ran reiserfsck on /dev/hda9 (my /) - it said there were no problems. Do I need to run mk_initrd, or is that wholly irrelevant here? If so, how? It doesn't seem to work from the Rescue option. I have, of course, tried linux 3 and linux init=3, as the message suggessts, but that gives the same error. In the last resort a reinstall of a nearly bare system will only take about an hour :-) , but I'd be interested in any background/further reading anyone can offer on this issue. TIA Kevin Donnelly
