However; when you start gpm you usually pass in a mouse type Like gpm -t ps/2 ... I think you should use gpm -t imps/2 instead. I have no ide where that is configured for SuSE 8.0. /etc/sysconfig/gpm? In SuSE 7.1 I have an parameter GPM_PARAMETER in /etc/rc/config.
This is from memory, so I hope there are not too many embarassing errors. I looked in /etc/sysconfig and in the file, displaymanager, found a line for the default, DISPLAYMANAGER="" . This looked fishy, so I changed it to "console", and was then unable to reproduce the problem. There is a line in /etc/sysconfig/mouse, GPM_PARAM="" , but it is working, so I am leaving this alone. ps aux shows a line containing something like, gpm -t imps2 -m /dev/auxps (my memory is a bit foggy here) Anyhow, it works now.
