~ a wild guess . . . do you have a seperate /boot partition . . . maybe lilo is trying to write to a /boot partition that is not mounted ?
Yes, that is right. I had it mounted incorrectly so lilo couldn't find it. I got past that and ran lilo then rebooted but it still isn't working. The boot process goes through some hardware recognition and then dies with Warning: unable to open an initial console Kernel panic: No Init found. Try passing init= option to kernel Another person suggested I post my lilo.conf and perhaps it might help me get past this next problem disk = /dev/hda bios = 0x83 disk = /dev/sda bios = 0x80 disk = /dev/sdb bios = 0x81 disk = /dev/sdc bios = 0x82 change-rules reset read-only menu-scheme = Wg:kw:Wg:Wg lba32 prompt timeout=80 message = /boot/message image = /boot/vmlinuz label = linux root = /dev/sda1 vga = 791 initrd = /boot/initrd image = /boot/vmlinuz.suse label = failsafe root = /dev/sda1 vga = 791 initrd = /boot/initrd.suse append = "ide=nodma apm=off acpi=off" optional image = /boot/memtest.bin label = memtest86 Damon Register
