Eddie, I've seen this on 6.4/7.0/7.1/7.2 and now 8.0 when there was a windoze installation prior to installing SuSE. Not every time though - probably about 3 in 10. Just boot CD1, select "boot installed system", login as root and type "lilo". This is also the case when dropping a SuSE image onto a machine by using DriveImage Pro 3/4/5. The fix is the same too. I did yet another re-install of windows98 on my system. I used my DVD to boot into linux (SuSE 8.0). Then I ran Yast2 (the bootloader configuration option) to reinstall lilo. It completed successfully(?) but nothing was written to the MBR. I repeated the process with the same result. I remember in the past I had the same experience and at that time (not being the brightest spark) I reinstalled my SuSE 8.0 just to get lilo sorted. This time (with a flash of inspiration) I ran lilo from the commandline and it worked perfectly.
Has anyone else had this experience? Is this a bug in Yast2, or did I do something wrong or omit something? Perhaps Yast2 isn't supposed to write to the MBR? I have two drives hda and hdb. Windows98 is loaded on hda and SuSE 8.0 on hdb.
