I have had the exact same problem with SuSE 8 and two Dell laptops with 3com pcmcia cards. Previous versions of SuSE recognized and configured the card without incident. The only workaround I know is to type in `ifconfig eth0 10.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0`. This configured eth0 which was actually the pcmcia card. But I have to do this everytime I boot or the computer. Hopefully someone else that has a more permanent solution will chime in. Not a complete answer, but it should get you up and running. Sorry, that was a Xircom "XE2000" 10/100 card (not a "XE200" as earlier stated).
