You will find a link called /usr/lib/java that will point to /usr/lib/jdk1.1.8 You must (as root) remove this link and create a new one still called /usr/lib/java but this time pointing to your 1.3.1 sdk. In your PATH variable you will find ...:/usr/lib/java/bin:... so the link must point to the directory level which has the "bin" directory. One last point, in 7.3 there was a setting in the SuSE configuration script that called for the linking of the java runtime, this must be set to no so that all your hard work will not be over-written when next you make a change with yast.

Easier still, in your ~/.profile or /etc/profile.local (or even on the command line) insert a line like this: . setJava SunJava2 (do note the "." in front of setJava) where valid parameters may be, SunJava1, SunJava2, IBMJava2, Java2, default This script sets java for current shell. -jrh
