I'm not exploring KonCD for the first time. The setup seemed to be simple enough. I added myself as a user, typed in the paths for cdrecord, etc, I chose my atapi CD-ROM as the "reader" and my scsi CD-R as the "writer." However, when I attempt to copy a CD, it says it cannot read the disk.
I should probably note that with XCDROAST, I've never gotten it to even recognize the atapi CD-ROM drive. At least KonCD seems to recognize its existence, even though it won't read any CD I put in the drive.
I'm not totally ignorant - I've been following threads by people with atapi CD-R drives, and I'm aware of the need for the append="ide-scsi" statement in LILO, and the need to "modprobe ide-scsi." I tried that, but it doesn't work, and actually I don't think it's even necessary for recognizing a CD-ROM (as opposed to a CD-R).
NTI-CDMAKER, which runs on Windows (boo!, hiss!), of course, has no problem reading from the atapi CD-ROM drive.
I'd greatly appreciate it if anybody could point out what I'm doing wrong.

Robert, I've never been able to get most cd burning programs to work with my cdrom unless I also enable scsi emulation in addition to my cdrw. I think gnome-toaster (or maybe it's gcombust) might be able to read from the cdrom without scsi emulation, but I've only tried it once or twice. You may also want to try k3b -- I had never heard of it until this weekend and found it on the suse ftp server. It's a super-easy cd burning program that (as I understand it) will read from your cdrom without scsi emulation. I highly recommend it.
