Thank-you VERY much for posting this information. After weeks of frustration it fixed the broken wireless on both my laptops. I know this was discussed a few weeks ago and I have tried to follow previous advice, but I can't seem to get my linksys WPC-11 wireless network card to work in SuSE 8.0. It was working in 7.3 with and still works in windows on the same computer so I know it's not a hardware problem. I have temporarily disabled the encryption on the wireless hub, so the problem is not in the encryption. I have included the output of ifconfig and the relevant section of /var/log/messages. Running dhcpcd manually results in a time-out error. I would appreciate any advice (and maybe an explanation of why SuSE apparently changed the pcmcia setting files, included the drivers for wireless interface cards, and yet provides absolutely no documentation on how to use them!)
Update to this package and everything should work like on 7.x.
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/zoz/pcmcia/8.0/pcmcia-3.1.31-0.i386.rpm
The "problem" was that the pcmcia package was build with wlan-ng without implement it very well.
Update the package with
rcpcmcia stop rpm -e pcmcia rpm -ihv pcmcia-3.1.31-0.i386.rpm rcpmcia start
