I faced this problem with my IBM ThinkPad iSeries 1200, which does not have an ethernet port. I did try one PCMCIA card, which didn't work, and I also don't like the fact that these cards tend to run hot. Salvation came in the form of a USB-to-ethernet adaptor. Mine is a D-Link DU-E100, which is smaller than a pack of cigarettes and weighs almost nothing. I'd have to check my laptop (I'm at the desktop right now) to see what driver it used, but it was an easy thing to configure. So if your laptop has USB ports, you might want to consider it. regards, Robert in sunny, polluted Taiwan
