Just started using APT - very impressed.
It is.
One query, please. Can APT downloads be interrupted and then continued later, or does everything have to be downloaded in one session? If it can be interrupted and restarted, does APT remember where it got to and carry on from there, or does it go back to the start of whatever package was interrupted?
They can be stopped and will continue at the bit where you stopped the download when you start apt again. Very handy indeed.
I only have a slow speed dial-up connection and don't like to "hog" the phone line for hours on end doing a massive download!
In this case: you could specify only 1 component in the /etc/apt/sources.list file. If you e.g. specify only the "security" component, apt will only upgrade the rpms that have been updated, because of security issue. Or specify "kde" on its own, and you'll only get the kde updates (still a lot ;) -- Richard Bos Democracy cost a fortune
