I finally got around to setting up the Philips Vesta Scan Pro webcam. It worked right away, although with a postage-stamp size picture. That was with xawtv and webcam. I could not figure out how to make the picture bigger. I wanted 320x240. Webcam has a -geometry option, but when I tried to use it I got an error about "ioctl has invalid argument." I decided I would need to try a different program to run the webcam. Interestingly, webcam works great if you have a NTSC cam connected to the composite input of a WinTV card, for example. I downloaded Cam-E, and I couldn't get it installed, let alone working. Next I tried Camstream, which I believe is by the same guy who did the Philips Linux driver. It installed easily and is working nicely. Next I am going to try the Logitech QuickCam Pro, which Internet postings have led me to believe should work because it supposedly has the same internal components as the Philps. If anyone else is using a webcam with Linux, I would be interested in your experiences, what software you use, and any other comments. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.3 Professional KDE 2.2.1 KMail 1.3.1 This is a Microsoft-free computer Bryan S.
