I installed SuSE 7.3 in Proliant 370 and there was no problem. I installed it from the first time and SuSE is the only OS in that machine. I think you still have to use smartstart cd, it is mean you will erase all your data in your hard disk (back up your data first or use other harddisk). Smartstart will make EISA partition about 32 MB for hardware configuration. After a few steps you have to choose Linux as Operating System for your server. And it will ask you to put the SuSE source CD. I choosed to boot from floppy disk when yast ask for the boot disk so prepare an empty 1.4 MB disk to put the boot loader. The reason is when something happen, smartstart cd still can use the information from it's partition to reconfigure the server. The rest is yours. Regards, M. Edwin http://www.nsi.co.id
Hi Everyone, I got a proliant 5000R server a short time ago, within the past week I decided to have a go installing 7.3 on it. The install progressed normally until partitioning and yast told me I didn't have a hard drive. I searched the compaq reference site and found a reference to this /w SuSE 6.4 along with a statement that compaq didn't support 6.4. I also found an article on the same site stating that in order to install linux on a proliant server you needed to use the smartstart cd and configure the server for linux. This information was a bit dated as it referenced 6.4 and nothing newer than 7.2 pro. My question is does anyone have any experience installing SuSE on one of these machines? If so, is the reference to having to use smartstart cd still current for 7.3? BTW, I have really not gotten a definitive yes or no from compaq server support so I thought I would ask here.
