Hi all,
I sent this to feedback@suse.com so they can fix some package problems with
the latest KDE updates for 7.1. I thought that I would forward it to the list
in case others run into this problem or can suggest a solution.
Note that I have tried to create the new symlinks that the packages need, but
they are not recognized by rpm when I try to install the new package
(probably because they are not in the package database).

Subject: Problems with latest KDE packages for SuSE 7.1

Hello,
I recently installed the latest KDE3 packages from the /supplementary/KDE/7.1
directories on the ftp server. There is a problem with the packages because
sound no longer works. Digging into things a little deeper, it turns out that
the libraries normally contained within kde2-compat.rpm do not satisfy the
requirements for the arts server. For example, kde2-compat-2.2.2-103.rpm
supplies libartsflow.so, and links for libartsflow.so.0. However, arts can't
be started after installing the new rpms because it needs, among other
missing linked libraries, libartsflow.so.1
More detailed information:
Attempting to install kdelibs3-3.0-35.rpm results in:
root@penguin:/rpms/KDE/KDE3/base > rpm -Uvh kdelibs3-3.0-35.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
libartsflow.so.1 is needed by kdelibs3-3.0-35
libartsflow_idl.so.1 is needed by kdelibs3-3.0-35
libkmedia2_idl.so.1 is needed by kdelibs3-3.0-35
libmcop.so.1 is needed by kdelibs3-3.0-35
libqtmcop.so.1 is needed by kdelibs3-3.0-35
libsoundserver_idl.so.1 is needed by kdelibs3-3.0-35
None of these libraries are provided by any packages under the 7.1 KDE
directory - I would expect them to be in the kde2-compat package, but this
package is out of sync with the latest updates.
Thanks,
-ronc
