Is anyone using an HP JetDirect print server with Suse? If so, do you know what I need to do to install or hook up to it?
I am using CUPS and I set up access to a JetDirect using YaST2. The process is similar 7.3 and 8.0. I don't remember if it was the same with versions less than 7.3. Also, I've only used JetDirects that were configured for TCP/IP. Not sure how well it works if the JetDirect is only configured for IPX.
That's almost what worked for me. Then I read Robert Paulson's post a couple of weeks ago: I have an HP LaserJet network printer and was able to set up access to it via Yast2 on both SuSE 7.3 and SuSE 8.0, so it can be done. One thing you say that confuses me is that you have multiple printers on the same IP address. I am not sure how this can be possible (but since I only have one printer myself perhaps I just don't know what the implications are). Perhaps each is on a different queue name? Note that Yast2 does not autodetect network printers. To set up a network printer, try the following: 1. Start the Yast2 Hardware module and select "Edit Printers" 2. Click on the Add button. 3. Choose "Prefilter for an LPD forwarding queue" and click Next 4. Choose "Create a new one" and click on Loookup. If this finds an IP address, good. Otherwise type in the correct ip address for the printer(s?). 5. In my case, it makes no difference what I use for "Name of remote queue", but perhaps in your case it will make a difference. 6. Click on Next and select the manufacturer, model, driver, etc.. The above will create both a "Forwarding queue" and a "Prefilter queue". Use the "Prefilter queue" as the queue name to print to. -- Robert C. Paulsen, Jr. That worked for me. Hope it does for you! Nick
