How do I go about fixing this?
Did you do ldconfig after you did "make install" on the xine-libs?
No. after make install I could not find it.
After you did "make install" on xine-libs you should have done ldconfig. This updates the linker cache so other programs can find the libraries you've just installed. If you didn't pass any special flags to the configure script, xine will install in /usr/local, so the libs are in /usr/local/lib
Did you remember to exit from root before you started compiling xine-ui?
No. I did not. But why would I wanted to? I don't understand?
Most people run configure and make as a regular user, then "su" to root to do "make install". If you do that, root won't have anything (almost) in the path. If you go on to do configure on xine-ui without first exiting from the su it will fail. But in this case I think the problem is that you didn't do the ldconfig. If you'd done that, I suspect the configure script for xine-ui would have found the libs. //Anders -- I swear I do declare - how did you get that there?
