SuSE 7.3 on a Dell GX400. Everything was working fine. Could burn and listen to cd's with no problem. Then I did a YOU and one of the updates was xcdroast amoung many others. After the update, the burner can no longer be seen, nor could audio cd's for playing. I finally figured out that the reason it could no longer see the audio cd's was that the link between /dev/sr0 and /dev/cdrom had been destroyed. ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom fixed that and I could once again listen to audio cd's however I still could not burn. What follows is the error messages I get on xconsole when I try to start any of the cd burning tools (xcdroast/koncd) May 16 08:24:03 cabanisspc kernel: pg: pg version 1.02, major 97 May 16 08:24:03 cabanisspc modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module paride_protocol May 16 08:24:03 cabanisspc kernel: pg0: Autoprobe failed May 16 08:24:03 cabanisspc kernel: pg: No ATAPI device detected May 16 08:24:03 cabanisspc insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.10-4GB/kernel/drivers/block/paride/pg.o: init_module: Operation not permitted May 16 08:24:03 cabanisspc insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.10-4GB/kernel/drivers/block/paride/pg.o: insmod char-major-97 failed -- Dr. Roy F.
