Well, select Insert > Special Character... , select font, and in the Subset field select Currency Symbol. Here you see the Euro sign. Not available in every font, however.

I do not have any Euro Sign in my shell also. I am using Suse Linux 8.0 and OpenOffice 1.0.

There is an article on that in the support database. Search for 'Euro'. I remember that the console font has to be set to lat9w-16.psfu.gz. SH
