Thanks for all your quick responses. I do appreciate it. Jon, thanks to your help, finally I successfully performed full backup for my database. The eom is for space to the end of the recorded media on the tape (for appending files onto tapes). oem in previous message was a typo. Anyway, Again, thanks for your help.

Thanks for your quick response, Jon. I did use mt -f /dev/nst0 oem for full backup. However, the system replaces the old files with the new ones. Any fix, please help.
mt -f /dev/nst0 oem tar -cvf /dev/nst0 /Disk05 tar -cvf /dev/nst0 /Disk04
to verify the tape archieve's contents tar -dvf /dev/nst0 or tar -tvf /dev/nst0 . The output is the files on this Disk04 only.
Bugger... What's the "oem" for ? This works.... mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind tar -Rcvf /dev/nst0 /home/jon tar -Rcvf /dev/nst0 /home/jill tar -Rcvf /dev/nst0 /etc Then, to view the files; mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind tar -dvf /dev/nst0 <- Shows the first "file" on the tape (/home/jon) mt -f /dev/nst0 fsf <- Move to the start of the next "file" on the tape tar -dvf /dev/nst0 <- Shows the contents of the second "file" on the tape (/home/jill) etc..etc..etc...
