I do not know what SuSE uses and does not use and have never really bothered to find out. I have always removed sendmail and apache from Linux distros because it is essential in so many ways to ensure they are always the latest release. And I like the full control building and compiling gives me. This SuSE list is probably not the best place to discuss this, but if you would like to tell me in greater detail what you are attempting to do, I'll try to respond on a one-to-one basis. George
I didn't think SuSe used a sendmail.mc file. And I'm not sure I understand how it works in the command line you quote here. Is cf.m4 the file which produces my sendmail.cf? m.

To creat the new configuration you must invoke m4 from within the cf/cf directory like so:
m4 ../m4/cf.m4 sendmail.mc > sendmail.cf
This is the command that will create the finished .cf file you want.

When I compile my linux.mc with m4 I can create a sendmail.cf file fine, but I'm missing parts of the "LOCAL INFO" section:
DS DR DH DM
...fields are all blank, or rather still need to be filled in! they should have my host name and in the case of DM my masquerade name. What have I forgotten? I notice that my masquerade_envelope.m4 file isn't referenced in my compile of the sendmail.cf file, unlike the one SuseConfig produced.
