Greg, I can't offer a solution, but I can offer some sympathy. I've noticed similar symptoms on my laptop dual booting SuSE 8.0 and Win98. If I choose Shutdown|Reboot|Windows from the login box Win98 tends to hang up (or even put up these really weird bars of color) and then if I force the laptop's power off and try again, Win98 goes to the menu where I can pick normal or safe mode startup and just picking normal it boots up fine. I thought I should respond because it sounds like we have the same problem and the only thing we have in common is that we both get this on our laptops. Our SuSE and Windows versions differ, so this is a real puzzler. (Perhaps this means the problem lies in some software [lilo?] that is common to both 7.3 and 8.0.) Greg Hicks wrote:
I am dual booting my laptop between SuSE 7.3 Pro and Win2K, when I boot Linux it all works fine, but when I restart it and choose Win2K from my startup options (I am using System Commander) my laptop goes to the starting windows screen with the percentage bar along the bottom, it gets about 75% of the way across the screen and then it stops. The little scrolling graphic that keeps running left to right during this time is still scrolling, but I left the computer go for about 15 minutes with no drive activity and it never comes up. If I then shut down and restart again it goes right into Win2K without a problem. Anyone have any ideas on what would cause this type of problem?
