In 7.2 my 3 machine network used a gateway server to connect to the internet, with masq and forwarding. Its entry in rc.config was this:
IFCONFIG_0="dhcpclient" IFCONFIG_1="" IFCONFIG_2="192.168.0.99 dynamic pointopoint 192.168.0.1 up" IFCONFIG_3=""
NAMESERVER="192.168.10.1"
This is not enough. What were the contents of /etc/route.conf You seem to have been using two cards. Can you re-post and describe specifically what were your previous settings: How many ethernet cards How was each one configured The IP number The netmask or subnet (e.g. 255.255.0.0) The default gateway The DNS IP numbers.
I have now set up my notebook with Suse 8. I went into Yast 2 and entered the following:
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 ( i also tried ~.0.99 and ~.0.1) Static address (of the notebook) 192.168.10.3 Subnet 255.255.255.0
you should use 255.255.0.0, since you are using 192.168.0.* and 192.168.10.*
Host name: Linux (my notebook name) ALSO I checked change name via dhcp ) Name server list: 192.168.10.1 Domain - nickselby.de (this worked under Suse 7.2
If you were using dhcpclient before, why don't you select the same thing again? On Yast2 use the option "Automatic address setup (via DHCP)" I have set up a friend's PC that way (she uses a cable ISP) and had no need to enter routing or DNS settings. -- Rafael
