Hello, Lee. I upgraded my aging Toshiba Tecra 550 a few weeks ago with the 2.4.16 kernel for 7.3. I just pulled down all the associated RPMs in the kernel folder (reiser etc) along with the k_deflt.rpm and put them all in the same directory. A quick 'rpm -Uvh *.rpm', an 'mk_initrd', add a dash of 'lilo', and a swift reboot. No problems thus far. I think the old PCMCIA issues were resolved some time ago. My PCMCIA NIC and modem still work great. Bye for now, Stuart. -----Original Message----- From: Fent, Lee [mailto:lee.fent@esker.com] Sent: 15 February 2002 15:45 To: 'suse-linux-e@suse.com' Subject: [SLE] Upgrading Kernel on Laptop I'd like to upgrade my Kernel from the 2.4.4 to probably 2.4.16. However, I'm using a laptop. When I did this before, I remember having to get the newest PCMCIA drivers too. Is this still true? Does anyone know if I'd have to do this with a SuSE Compiled Kernel? On another note, I should still be able to run make cloneconfig and then copy the .config file to the new kernel root and then run make menuconfig and have all of SuSE's layout turned on by default right?
