I have upgraded my Dell Inspiron 8100 to 2.4.17 kernel because of NVIDIA problems and it really did stop the crashes. Then had problem with fonts not scaling in non-kde applications, so I upgraded XFree86 to 4.2 as this was supposed to fix some of those problems, which it did. But now when I boot, it ends up in run level 3. Some of the pertinent lines during logon are as follows INIT: Entering run level 5 . . . Master Resource Control: runlevel 5 has been unused Skipped services in runlevel 5: I then login and can startx. Checked that it is gaphical login in the control center login manager, runlevel editor, and configure boot mode. This all looks fine. Looking at the boot.msg file, the last line is <notice>killproc kill(126,3) Does anyone know what this means or have any idea why it will not boot with graphics loging? Art
