Well, I had very similar problems with my GeForce2 card when I first installed 7.3. My screen would go black during the install process when the re-boot part of the install would start. So I tried the text version of the installer and got the system installed, then proceeded to configure X via SaX2 and ran into similar problems you describe above. Then I discovered that if I enter "disableapics" in the kernel arguments during the installation, the graphical installer ran all the way through without any problems. Everything worked including SaX2, which gets called during the installation process and KDE came up just fine. Once up and running, I then updated the NVIDIA kernel and GLX. I'm not sure this is the identical problem to mine, but I thought it was similar enough to mine that I would share this info. Hope this helps. Dale.
