For each of these commands I also see a bunch of information that I do understand. I do not know what is on port 1 or port 6 and I do not know what 'state 7' means. Can anyone help me out?
type raw does not have states. The '1' and '6' are protocols, not ports--type 1 is ICMP and type 6 is TCP. See proc(5) and netstat(8) for more details. -- -ckm
