Probably some weird locking problems between sendmail >and makemap...make sure sendmail isn't running and >that you aren't trying to do this over nfs.
Good idea. I was, kind of. /home is mounted via NFS, and I was in /home/monte/tmp/install-sendmail.5.5. Tried unpacking the archive in /tmp, and doing it again, but same error.
Otherwise, the usual trick is to wrap makemap in a Makefile that makes the map with a different different name and then replaces the old map with it.
Huh? This isn't a script I'm trying to *write*; it's one that I've d/l'd from http://cork.linux.ie/projects/install-sendmail/. I've tried emailing the author a day or two ago, but no response so far. The thing I'm trying to figure out is this: I have previously run this script/program on this workstation machine running SuSE 7.3, w/ no problems. Then, somewhere in the midst of screwing w/ package sets on the machine(didn't actually send any mail for a couple days, so it could have been any time in that period), I b0rked something. Then when I went to re-run the script because my mail was bouncing back from my provider, it won't run. I have another machine ( the server ) that it runs perfect on. In fact, I've never known this script to *not* work before. So I figure I must have hosed something somewhat fundamental to sendmail, perhaps. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sendmail package, but that didn't seem to really help any. Any help is good help at this point! The only way I have to respond to messages is to cut-n-paste from pine to Yahoo! Mail in Opera. kind of a PITA. TIA, Monte ===== "Here, catch!
