I currently have SuSe 7.2 installed on a machine destined for a server. I would like to use 7.3 on it but its getting very costly to buy the latest release every time is it possible to use some of the packages from 7.3 in 7.2 such as apache, mysql, kernel etc (that are substantially newer?) Is this possible? Are there any possible bad effects.
I do this quite frequently, you shouldn't have any problems. I would recommend you use the upgrade flag (rpm -Uvh package.rpm). The only time you might see problems is if the system has substantially changed (eg, new glibc, etc, and RPM will let you know).
Also on another note where can I suggest programmes that should be included in the next release of SuSe
