I have both WINDOWS 2000 AND LINUX on my home computer but I can only run <snip> from my programs running on LINUX , to the campus server I have to store such data onto a zip disk then reboot, start WINDOWS and finally copy my data from the zip disk to the remote server. The problem I am experiencing is TRUNCATION & ALTERATION of file names. I was told this happens every time LINUX writes to a medium that has been formatted by WINDOWS, which is my case. <snip> Maura E.M.
It would help if you would give an example. There are several ways that samba might change your filenames. Make sure you do not have an option mangle case or mangled names, and you can also set what character samba uses in place of the fat32 "~" (for example progra~1 instead of programing files) with option "mangling char = ^ ". Those are just a few possibilities but it's impossible to say which is affecting you without some examples. John
