We want windows users to migrate to linux, right? In most cases those users have made sizable investments in winware. For home users it's perhaps mainly games, for companies it might be accounting software for example. It would be asking a lot to have them migrate everything in one go. Letting them use their existing s/w on the new platform can only be a plus. I know there's an argument that it will slow efforts to have native ports, but is ports really what we want? We'll be playing eternal catch-up if ports is all we have. We need native linux-only apps. I remember an interview with the loki president (I forget his name) just before new year, and he was asked if he had any new year's resolutions. He said: yes, to have a super 3D game labelled 'linux only'. That's the sort of thing we need. lindows.com doesn't mention what they'll be using, but I agree it sounds a lot like wine. And if they can contribute towards making wine usable I for one will be grateful. I might even spend a few $$$ on their work. I know I'll be buying Mandrake/TransGaming's effort when it's available here regards Anders On Saturday 27 October 2001 19.14, Jon Pennington wrote:

Negative. SuSE Linux is Linux *for* business. SuSE Ag is much bigger than the little software company we see in the US. Yes, Linux is their flagship product, but it's not the *only* way they have of making money. Also, I forgot to stipulate one more thing in my scruple; there's no need for *new* distributions. There are six majors in the US alone, and we don't need seven, especially if the seventh exists for the sole purpose of running *another* platform's software.
