Hello,
Hi
Actually text-mode works until I run X the first time.
After X, text-mode is
not working.. It seems that X leaves the Matrox to
another frequency that my
monitors are not supporting.
Thats odd -- very odd. Since the console offers no GUI, it should work like a charm....in theory.
What you can do, is to use a handy utility called:
vgaset
this will list the refresh /frequency rate of your monitor.
You might also want to look at the following program:
SVGATextConsole....
This allows you to tweak your monitor while in text-mode, as it were.
Incidentally, you might try frame buffering......
Framebuffer+X is the problem. I recompiled my kernel without framebuffer support of any kind and the problem went away. I also *highly* recommend updating X to 4.1.0 using the SuSE RPMs if you're using a G400 or G450. There are a ton of improvements there. The SuSE README accompanying the RPMs also recommends disabling the framebuffer for those cards. I'm not sure which has the bug, but I highly suspect X. Setting the VGA to normal in LILO shouldn't actually help either as the framebuffer is still going, but I'm not too sure about that. I didn't really want to screw around with it. -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com
