I keep a search engine page locally on the hard drive. When any browser gets opened on my network they point to the search.htm locally Regarding solving problems on the list. I usually do a search on google that goes something like this: suse kicker suse "kicker panel" (using quotes eliminates a lot of stuff) suse "kde programming" suse ximian suse evolution suse harden suse firewall if your using opera it is even simpler type a "g" example: g "suse linux 7.1" kicker g "suse linux 7.2" kicker g suse kicker I use quotes when there are too many hits. For example suse kde programming becomes +suse +"kde programming" Usually just adding suse as a keyword turns up one of the suse lists. I try to limit to as few words that make sense regarding the problem. occasionally I start adding or subtracting words that cause my search some trouble. When compiling a program which gives me an error message: I try to quote the error message up to the point of where the message has machine specific information. e.g. proFTP terminating on signal 11 (my.box.has.cool.name 07:51am) You'd clip the "proFTP terminating on signal 11" part and past it in to the google search engine and put quotes around it. You would be suprised how many times you can find the answer to your own problem using this method. Don't for get there are other search engines as well. altavista, northernlight, lycos but each has their own quirks and ways to logically search. Another tip: Turn off the graphics and all the other bells and whistles in opera. It will speed up your results. On Friday 28 September 2001 04:51 pm, you wrote:

As others have pointed out, places like Geocrawler provide searchable archives. Likewise, if you prefix a search on google with "English SuSE Linux Discussions: [SLE]" you basically have a poor company's google index of the archives. =20
Geocrawler isn't maintained (http://www.geocrawler.com/about/) and the search results are outdated. I too use Google but specify the site with the query, e.g. site:lists.suse.com:
http://www.google.com/search?q=aic7xxx+site%3Alists.suse.com
