I am trying to set up Samba as PDC for my small network for the first time. I have been following the "using samba" book instructions. My problem is that samba says "password incorrect". Obviously, it isnt, as I can access to smb share with that password.
Ah, the old WinBlows problem... Basically, WinBlows is sending your password encrypted that Samba doesn't understand. Two fixes are; 1. Set samba for encrypted passwords (never did get this one going at home) 2. Add an entry to the Windows registry to allow unencrypted passwords. Assuming you're familiar with Regedit, you have to add; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP\EnablePlainTextPasswords=1 Yes, it's not terribly secure if you really want to get technical, but it works...:-)
