There is a difference about the SCSI emulation for an IDE device(CD-RW) and the SCSI support for specific SCSI devices like your scanner, which is connected to a SCSI card. They uses different modules in the kernel. Your CD-RW must use the sg or sr module.
Try '/sbin/modprobe sg.o'. If you get module can't be found you must enable this option in your kernel, as it is described in the links I gave you in the last mail. You might also try to load the sr module.
