Adam,
Thanks a lot, I think I didn't communicate the NFS stuff right. This machine is a server to the workstations, it is the fileserver. I then import the directory locally to the workstation.
I will take a lot at /etc/profile.local when I get home to see if anything is amiss (I am at work now and this is a home network). Hopefully this will shed some light on where I am going wrong.
Thanks a bunch for your response.
Best,
Keith B.

Hi,
I might be able to help you :-)
I had exported the /var/lib/mysql/"database" ( database being the name of an internal database named iboms2) in caldera. I had to turn on nfsserver to get this in SuSE ( I am a newbie, so I might have misintrepeted needing to do this).
[Thomas]: NFSServer simply mounts non-local disks, so
they become "local" in effect.
Unless the main "database" is located on the remote machine I see no reason why you would have needed to start this on your machine.
Then on bootup it said I had not set up a host to use this, which I then did via YaST2. Now when I boot up it loads and then closes mysql and the message is "mysql ended".
[Thomas]: There are a number of environment variables
really should be set in the file "/etc/profile.local" (which if it does not exist create yourself). However since I migrated to using postgresql, my days in MySQL were few.

[Thomas]: I hope some of this (if any) helps,
Regards,
Thomas Adam

Keith, :-) Actually my name is Thomas (Adam is my surname), but don't worry about it :-) I am just cursed with having two "forenames". As I said before...you might well have to create the "/etc/profile.local" file. I have a hunch that this file does not exist on default. Regards, Thomas that that the
