I want to say I bought a 5400 or 5000 series. I just checked the 3ware website and it no longer exists. The offering looks about the same though. Now the cards are ATA/66 or ATA/100 and both support 8 drives. When I bought mine the main product differentiation was not ATA, but number of drives supported, I think 2/4/8. I started using the card with SuSE 6.3 (which required a kernel recompile), but installations of 7.1 and 7.2 SuSE found the hardware during set-up. The drivers are actually in the kernel. It's quite fast even though I only mirror with it, not stripe. It's faster to read/write to the 3ware mirrored RAID then for me to read/write Mac to Mac for example.
I bought one two years ago. Works so well I never even think about it.
Which one did you get. thanks for the reply.
