maximum transmit unit. This is the largest block size that may be transmitted: i.e there's a packet assembler/disasasembler in there somewhere that transmits blocks of data when they get to 3816 bytes (+40 overhead) or when the data to be sent is complete. I think you can change this with ifconfig. You may want to reduce it to something smaller (296 is the smallest practical size) when you use a telnet connection. Otherwise leave it alone. Does it mean that the maximum packet size is 3856 bit, or something else? (byte?)
