just do this echo "ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.1.10 broadcast 192.168.1.255 netmask 255.255.255.0 up" >> /etc/init.d/virtual-int chmod 700 /etc/init.d/virtual-int ln -s /etc/init.d/virtual-int /etc/init.d/rc3.d/S99Virtual /etc/init.d/virtual-int this will create a script (albeit a simple one) that will bring up your virtual interafce on boot up. you can bring it down with ifconfig eth0:0 down of course change the ip address to whatever you need it to be if you need more than one virtual interface, name it as follows eth0:1 eth0:2 On Thu, 20 Sep 2001, Richard Mason wrote:
Hi,
Hoping someone can help me. I am new to Linux and have just set up a linux firewall and apache web server. I was wondering if it is possible to have multipule IP addresses on the one ethernet card? I am running SuSE Linux 7.2 Pro (Kernel 2.4.4), I have read that I am supposed to edit (or create) an ifcfg-eth0:0 file but I can't find it under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts, or anywhere, is this the correct path? Many thanks, Rich
