ok I have a soyo K7V Dragon motherboard with the onboard CMI8738. The card is working and so is the optical out but I have 2 problems. 1) The optical out seems to always send a signal out even when nothing is playing. This maybe normal for the CMI8738 but I haven't seen an optical out do this before. Is there a switch I need to set to stop it from doing this besides disabling the spdif output totally? 2) How do I set the volume for the spdif output. There are 3 devices associated with the card but only a mixer for device 0. Do I have to create a new mixer for each additional device? How would I do this? I know how to set the mixer settings using alsactl but I can't seem to control the volume for the spdif. The volume currently is coming out to high and is causing distortion/clipping when I try to record from it. Thanks for any input. -- Drew Plug n Pay
